I've been working on several projects, simultaneously and I must say that, they're all coming along wonderfully. One of those projects is a blog that features Pictures and Poetry. It's still a work in progress, as I'm still in the designing process, but just like everything else I do, feel free to watch me grow and evolve into something even larger. I'm so loving my life and just want to share the love with you https://eclecticallybalanced.wordpress.com/
Namaste <3 A week ago, I had the opportunity to have an extended visit and in-depth conversation with such an incredibly, amazing lady and my new friend, over (2) Chai Teas while being encapsulated by the sun’s powerful glow.
The conversation took on a life of it’s own and created a uniquely, graceful dance between us. Mid-way through our delightful, verbal exchange, she directed me to her latest blog entry (https://familyanswersfast.wordpress.com/); upon landing on her blog and thoroughly absorbing her message, along with the reader’s comments, I knew that I would soon touch on this subject and just needed a few shakes to gather my thoughts. The entry was led by a video and beauty challenge produced by Dove. They temporarily partnered with several businesses (the challenge was presented to several companies in varying cities/countries); (2) entrances were intentionally situated to gain access to the business, one reading “Average” and the other “Beautiful”. The premise of the experiment was to learn just how many women (young women--I do believe this project was targeted towards young women) would walk through which door. There were a substantial amount of women, with extreme trepidation and much thought, that ultimately walked through the door labeled, “average”. A, few took confident strides through the door of beauty. After watching the video in it’s entirety, I scrolled to read her blog and then headed on to the comments shared by her readers. Some of the comments were completely astounding and flat out shocking, as these were the remarks and commentary of very “successful” women and at least one man (if I recall correctly). It took me a moment to absorb all that my spirit and eyes had just taken in, but after a few moments, I was able to convey my thoughts to the writer, herself. I, told her that I would have found another place of business, as I didn’t appreciate the options. I found them to be incredibly, limited. I may have elaborated a tad, but not too much as I wasn’t quite sure, why I felt the way I did, I just knew that’s how I felt and that was my natural response and gut instinct. Well, after several days to ponder on the subject, I’ve gained more clarity regarding my disturbance of the video. I, envisioned myself walking up to a place that I conducted business regularly and being presented with such audacious and powerful, limitations. Because, I’m by no means society’s standard of beauty that option would have evoked defensiveness. But, does that mean that I’m not beautiful? I’m also not society’s definition of average, which would have left me with absolutely no options. For a brief moment, I believe I was offended when I initially began to watch the video, but rather quickly, that softened into understanding and gratitude to the marketing masterminds of Dove, to pose such a challenge. At minimum, this project creates dialogue between us and assists in breaking down the barriers and expectations of beauty. Namaste <3 |
